Di West
Multi-award winning and highly collectable Queensland artist, Di West is well known for her endearing human and animal characters and witty observations in paint and also in bronze. Di has a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Queensland University of Technology.
After living all her life in the heart of the city, Di has relocated to the lush countryside near Maleny in the hinterland of Queensland's Sunshine Coast. This was a "tree change" that had a profound effect on the artist, her subject matter and her sensibility.
Di's new series of works for the 30x30cm exhibition "30 Days hath September"... refers to her childhood. She employs her signature dark backgrounds which she says probably come from being afraid of the dark for the first 20 years of her life. She has a quirky sense of humour and turn of phrase and embues her paintings with a sense of optimism and well being. Her paintings and sculptures also contain nostalgic references about her own life in Maleny and her keen observation of the people and animals around her clearly shows through.
